Big Art by Os Gêmeos (The Brothers)
Giant paste up by JR
Public Art/Street Art hits the Tate Modern in the first major public museum display of street art in London. Featuring known artists’ Blu from Bologna, Italy; the artist collective Faile from New York, USA; JR from Paris, France; Nunca and Os Gemeos, both from Sao Paulo, Brazil and Sixeart from Barcelona, Spain. The show will run from May 23rd – August 25th.
The exhibit is brought about by the Big Art Mob, which is a part of a UK based project called The Big Art Project. From the site anyone can register and drop their pics of Big Art. It is mostly based in the UK, but I have since dropped some Bay Area BIG ART. The focus of the project is based in the idea of Public Art, which is defined by “the Copyright, Designs and Patents act 1988 as sculptures, buildings, models for buildings and “works of artistic craftsmanship” which are permanently situated in a public place or in premises open to the public”. Big Art Mob has itself become a kind of Public Art encouraging, inviting and inspiring people to photograph, create and post/share Big Art via each participants Moblog (vertical social blogging). Check it out register and rep your area.
